This Privacy Policy explains how Foodino ("the App") collects, uses, and protects user information.
1. Information We Collect
a) Camera Access
The App requests access to the device camera only when the user chooses to scan:
- Groceries
- Grocery receipts
- Supermarket loyalty card barcodes
The camera is never used in the background.
Camera access is optional and only activated when the user chooses to scan a barcode or receipt. Images captured during scanning are processed in real time to extract product information.
For AI-powered features (such as receipt understanding or grocery recognition), images or extracted text may be temporarily transmitted to third-party AI service providers solely to perform the requested functionality.
Images and related data are not stored by the App after processing and are not used for advertising, profiling, or tracking.
b) Voice Access
The App may request access to the device microphone when the user chooses to interact with Dino, the in-app assistant, via voice. Voice input is processed in real time to understand user requests (such as adding items or asking for recipe suggestions).
Voice data may be temporarily transmitted to third-party AI service providers solely to perform the requested functionality. Voice recordings are not stored by the App after processing and are not used for advertising, profiling, or tracking. Microphone access is optional and only activated when the user explicitly initiates a voice interaction.
c) Account Information
When users create an account, we may collect:
- Email address
- Authentication data managed securely via Firebase Authentication
d) Subscription and Purchase Information
If you purchase or activate a premium subscription, we may receive limited transaction and entitlement information from Apple App Store or Google Play, such as:
- The subscription product or plan you selected
- Transaction, order, or subscription identifiers
- Purchase date, renewal date, expiration date, and cancellation status
- Storefront, country, or currency information when provided by the platform
We do not receive your full payment card number or bank details. Payments are processed by the applicable app store.
e) App Usage Data
We may collect limited technical and usage data such as:
- App interactions
- Crash reports
- Device type and operating system version
This data helps us improve app performance and reliability.
f) Advertising Data
If you use an ad-supported version of the App, third-party advertising partners such as Google AdMob may collect or receive limited data associated with your device and app activity, such as:
- Advertising identifiers, subject to device permissions and settings
- IP address
- Device type, operating system, language, and app version
- Ad impressions, ad interactions, and basic performance diagnostics
This data may be used to serve, limit, measure, and protect ads, including fraud prevention and frequency capping. Depending on your device settings, region, and consent choices, ads may be personalized or non-personalized.
g) Website Cookies and Similar Technologies
On the Foodino website, we use a consent-controlled analytics tool to understand site traffic and improve performance. Analytics is disabled by default and only activated after you choose "Accept analytics" in our cookie settings banner.
We also store your analytics preference on your device so we can remember your choice. You can update this choice anytime through the website's cookie settings button.
The App does not collect biometric data, health data, precise location data, contact lists, or other sensitive personal information.
2. How We Use Information
We use collected information to:
- Provide core app features (inventory, shopping list, receipt scanning, voice assistant)
- Manage subscriptions, verify premium access, and respond to purchase-related support requests
- Improve functionality and user experience
- Display, measure, and protect advertising in ad-supported parts of the App
- Fix bugs and maintain security
- Prevent fraud, abuse, and invalid ad activity
We do not sell personal data for money. We may share limited technical and advertising-related data with service providers and advertising partners as described in this Policy.
3. Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)
We process personal data based on one or more of the following legal grounds:
- User consent (for example, when creating an account, using camera-based scanning, or enabling personalized ads where required)
- Performance of the service requested by the user, including account management and premium subscription features
- Legitimate interest in improving app functionality, security, reliability, fraud prevention, and sustaining ad-supported services where permitted
- Compliance with legal obligations, including tax, accounting, and consumer protection requirements
4. AI and Automated Processing
The App uses artificial intelligence (AI) technologies provided by third-party service providers to enable certain features, including:
- Receipt text extraction and interpretation
- Grocery recognition from images
- Recipe suggestions based on available ingredients
- Voice-based interactions with the in-app assistant (Dino)
AI processing is performed only when explicitly initiated by the user.
The App does not use AI for automated decision-making with legal or significant effects on users, nor for advertising or user profiling.
5. Image Processing
Images used for barcode, grocery recognition, and receipt scanning:
- Are processed temporarily
- Are not stored on our servers
- Are not used for profiling or marketing
- Are automatically discarded after processing
6. Data Retention
We retain personal data only for as long as necessary to provide the service. Account data is deleted when the user deletes their account. Subscription and transaction records may be retained for longer where necessary for billing, tax, accounting, chargeback, dispute resolution, or legal compliance. Technical, analytics, and advertising measurement data may be retained for a limited period for security, fraud prevention, and performance monitoring purposes, or in aggregated form.
7. Third-Party Services
The App uses third-party service providers and platform partners to support core functionality, subscriptions, and ad-supported experiences, including:
Google Firebase, which may process limited technical data to provide:
- Authentication
- Cloud database storage
- Analytics
- Crash reporting
Apple App Store and Google Play, which process payments, subscription billing, renewals, cancellations, and refunds under their own terms and privacy policies.
Google AdMob, which may process limited device, usage, and advertising-related data to serve ads, measure performance, limit repeated impressions, and detect invalid traffic.
Third-party AI service providers, which process images, text, or voice data solely to enable AI-powered features requested by the user (such as receipt scanning, recipe suggestions, or voice interactions).
Where providers process data on our behalf, we require them to protect it and use it only for permitted purposes. Some providers, such as app stores and ad networks, may process data under their own terms and privacy policies.
8. Advertising and AdMob
Foodino may display ads in the free or ad-supported version of the App using Google AdMob. AdMob may use the data described above to deliver ads, cap repeated impressions, measure campaign performance, and detect invalid traffic.
Where required by law, we rely on your consent for personalized advertising or access to device-level advertising identifiers. You can also manage ad preferences through your device settings and platform permissions. Resetting or limiting your advertising identifier may reduce ad personalization but does not necessarily eliminate ads entirely.
If your premium subscription expressly includes fewer ads or an ad-free experience, that benefit applies only to the scope described in the relevant purchase flow.
9. International Data Transfers
Some data may be processed on servers located outside your country of residence through our service providers and platform partners, including Google Firebase, Google AdMob, app store providers, and AI service providers. These transfers are protected by appropriate safeguards in accordance with applicable data protection laws.
10. Data Security
We take reasonable measures to protect user data using industry-standard security practices provided through Firebase infrastructure.
11. User Rights
Depending on applicable law, users may have rights to access, correct, delete, or object to certain processing of their personal data. Users can delete their account and associated data directly within the app, or they may submit a deletion request by contacting:

The App is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
